Went to the Impressions Gallery in Bradford to see Shirley Read give a talk about how to put exhibitions together (and buy her book). Also saw The Jerwood Prize winners and popped over t’road to the (usually underwhelming) National Media Museum (I was reasonably underwhelmed). What’s more I got chance to listen on the train ride to Radio 4’s version of Scoop by Evelyn Waugh. The only interesting thing I know about Evelyn Waugh is his first wife was also called Evelyn Waugh.

Cup of instant
February 18, 2009
One of my very few Polaroids is getting a showing at the Touchstones Gallery in Rochdale as part of Instant which is an exhibition of… well you’ve probably got the idea by now.
If you’re feeling flush and want something a little safer than a bank, you can even buy it. It comes with a frame, but if you were to unframe it, you’d find it’s a scan of the original Polaroid – is nothing as it seems nowadays?

Don’t shoot!

A photographer’s lot is not a happy one. Especially if you prefer cities to landscapes, the public think you’re a pedophile, security guards think you’re a terrorist. According to the BJP an amendment to the Counter Terrorism Act introduces laws that let the police to arrest you for taking their photo. No such laws existed to stop ‘evidence gatherers’ snapping people during the 2006 Labour Conference.
Meanwhile in America (where else) a man was arrested for taking a photo of an Amtrak train. His sinister motives were to enter an Amtrak photo contest that called for people to take and enter photos of Amtrak trains.
