Think once, think twice, think thriceMarch 13, 2011
Spring’s nearly here and like many other photographers the camera’s being put away and the bike is coming out – So here’s the Dunni-Smiff fleet in all its glory. Did the Jodrell Bank Cyclosportive yesterday with fellow snapper David Oates, who kindly stopped for a butty halfway through to let me catch him up. By the way, I should point out that the silver bike is a cyclo CROSS bike, hence the influx of religious imagery – despite me muttering something about god whilst wheezing my way way up a hill yesterday – I haven’t found religion (also despite the cross on my jersey).
STOP PRESS: Final times are now in and we managed a respectable 1 hour 56 mins. My cycling correspondent tells me this is an average speed of 15.52 mph or 24.98 kph which is faster than the average speed of the Tour de France winner in 1906, 1919, 1920, 1921, 1923 1924, 1925 and 1926. Obviously, bikes, roads, training, nutrition and banned substances are much better nowadays.
Exciting developments listeners! This months issue of Cycling Active reported that the best time for the 30 mile course was 1:48 – and presumably they didn’t stop for a butty!
